Hugo Naudè was born in Worcester in the Cape Province. He worked mainly in oils and very occasionally in watercolour. He studied at the Slade School of Art, the Art Academy in Munich and with the Barbizon group in France. Naudè was a founder member of the SA Society of Artists and the National Academy of Fine Art. Most of his landscapes are surprisingly small perhaps because many were painted in the field and completed in a single sitting. This gives them a special immediacy and spontaneity.
